WOLLASTON VILLAGE HALL MANAGEMENT
COMMITTEE MEETING
6.30pm, Tuesday 9th September 2025
Oasis Lounge, Wollaston
Present: Cllr Mike Goldsmith (Chair), Cllr Greg Carter, Penny Morten (Busy Bees), Sian Nichols (Busy Bees Chair), Kathryn Betts, Fran Woods (Studio 52 Dance), Maureen Green, Cllr John Mitchell and Suzanne Grant (Clerk).
Apologies: Mary Burbidge (Treasurer), Jaza Babar (Caretaker/Cleaner).
Mike welcomed everyone to the meeting. Apologies given as above.
The minutes of the meeting which took place on 8th July were agreed and signed.
None from the previous meeting.
Busy Bees Preschool has temporarily reversed its decision to wind down, following the strong support from parents and the increase in government funding. The preschool will have a clearer understanding of its cash flow and any potential shortfall once the government funding is received on 25th September. At this point, the Busy Bees rent rate will be reviewed, and Busy Bees will provide an updated cash flow report.
A meeting is scheduled for September 16th with the Parish Council and S106 NNC Team to establish and confirm the Early Learning Years proposal to ensure that the S106 funding is received and used for the direct benefit of Wollaston. It is crucial that the demographic of the required 0-2 years places (potentially 20/22 0-2years and 6/8 of preschool age) is confirmed at this meeting for the proposal to move forward and if agreed, the preschool will need to convert to a nursery and a business rather than a charity with additional staff. The architect has the plans and stipulations for this 91sq of Early Years space.
Please see attached YTD Accounts to August 31st, 2025, (closing bank balance £22,650.38) and forecast to 30th September 2025 which show a continued loss with a forecast of £20,185.80 balance by September 30th. The £500 member empowerment grant for kitchen utensils has been spent and the annual insurance renewal has been received and passed for approval before payment. All hirers have been informed of the rate increase and Jaz will update the charges sheet.
Maintenance update – the electrician has been visiting over the past couple of weeks to
resolve the issues flagged by the Insurance Company and this will be completed shortly.
Bookings have been quiet over the summer, but some bookings have been received later for
in the year. The Paralympics Team have been in contact to potentially book the Village Hall
for filming with Masie Summers-Newton.
The Kitchen Grant has been spent, and all new items are now in the kitchens with old stock
cleared out after a deep clean.
Two new bins have been labelled and placed in each kitchen with bin bags under the sink for
users to change after their session.
See point 4 above.
New term started Monday 8th September with 4 new starters. No issues.
No reports.
Tuesday September 30th, 2025, 6.30pm Village Hall Lounge.
