Present:     Cllr Dr Mike Goldsmith (Chair), Cllr Greg Carter, Jaza Babar, Kathryn Betts, Fran Woods, Anna Fermi and Suzanne Grant (Clerk).

  1. Welcome and Apologies

Mike welcomed everyone to the meeting.  Apologies were given as above.

  1. Minutes of the Previous Meeting

The minutes from the meeting which took place on 1st October 2024 were agreed and signed.

  1. Matters Arising

The secretary confirmed that the recent application for the £500 Member Empowerment Fund from our Ward Councillors had been approved for the purchase of new kitchen equipment.

  1. New Community Centre and Preschool

The survey for Early Years requirements has now closed and will be presented to the S106 NNC team together with a Budget plan for Busy Bees to obtain the S106 £348,000 towards the Village Hall redevelopment and to provide Busy Bees with the venue for full-time childcare.  A public consultation will need to take place in the Village, preferably before Christmas and planning permission should be applied for.  Users to continue to investigate temporary venues whilst the Village Hall is being redeveloped – this could be for six months plus, and it was recognised that this is proving difficult without any firm timings.  Dr Mike Goldsmith confirmed that Busy Bees would not pay any rent for the foreseeable future to help with their financial situation.  The Christmas Fayre charge would also be waivered.  Donation letters have gone out from Busy Bees to business in the village requesting financial support.

  1. Treasurer’s Report

The Secretary handed over Bowls rent cheque for December to be passed to the Treasurer.

Mr. Carter to continue with the Treasurer handover process, which includes setting up a generic Village Hall gmail account for all utilities and accounts and access to the bank account.

  1. Caretaker’s Report

Bookings continue to pick up with a number of Christmas bookings being taken including the Wreath making night and Christmas Fayre for Busy Bees.  The new users are requesting an invoice for payment, Greg to send Jaza a template to progress this asap.  Potential new class for Japanese Sword Fighting to begin in January.

Maintenance : The Oasis door lock has been replaced and new keys issued to users.  Disabled toilet lock now repaired.  Approval was given for the purchase of two new toilet seats.

The remaining 20 scrap chairs in the outside shed are to be picked up by NNC.  Greg to send Jaza bank details for this to be organized.

  1. Busy Bees Report (sent in by Penny Watts)

Busy Bees have recently set up a new tots group, Wollaston Tots Group, which runs on a Thursday morning.  This is proving to be very popular and receiving positive feedback.  We offer free tea, coffee, toast and fruit, only asking for a donation.  It’s open to every parent/carer with a young child or baby.  Whilst this has been running, I have been able to do some detective work into which settings etc these parents use.  Many of them use nurseries or child minders and although they are interested in us, we cannot offer the full day care they require.  We have secured two new starters from this group so far.

Busy Bees is still relying heavily on donations and fund raising to keep going.

We recently held a Halloween party and disco, which was very popular and open to the community.  A lot of new faces from the surrounding area attended.

I am currently in the process of enquiring into other premises whilst building work is going on within the hall, which I will update you on.

Staff and committee are very happy with Busy Bees and we certainly here for the journey!
