WOLLASTON VILLAGE HALL MANAGEMENT

COMMITTEE MEETING

6.30pm, Tuesday 6th June 2023

Village Hall, Wollaston

Present:    Mike Goldsmith (Chair), Greg Carter, Geoff Simmons (Treasurer), Maureen Green, Fran Woods, Helen Warden and Suzanne Grant (Clerk).

Apologies: Penny Morten, Kathy Betts.

  1. Welcome and Apologies

Mike welcomed everyone to the meeting.  Apologies were given as above.

  1. Minutes of the Previous Meeting

The minutes from the meeting which took place on 16th May 2023 were agreed and signed.

  1. Matters Arising

No Matters Arising to report.

  1. New Community Centre and Preschool

Mike advised that there is an issue with the New Community Centre and Preschool location due to the HSE carrying out a risk assessment associated with Scott Bader in 2020 which now means the original area is unsafe due to being in a high risk zone.  However, a new location is currently being investigated opposite, across the road into the next field which is outside the zone. Mike to send email to the Duchy with this proposal.  Other possible alternative is London Road (just off A509) which is also Duchy land farmed by the same farmer. The NNC were unaware of this issue and we are awaiting their response hopefully within a couple of days.

  1. Treasurer’s Report

Geoff circulated the latest accounts which shows the Village Hall is breaking even (surplus of £4,800 due to the PC grant).  Scouts rent is due shortly.  Notification from NNC of 10% increase on waste collection – currently £94.25 per quarter.  Gas meter issue – still outstanding.  Meter to be replaced, Mike to respond to communication.  Water meter issue still ongoing, Geoff to continue to chase. Geoff advised that there was an outstanding invoice from China Creations for early March (also hired previous weekend).  Helen to confirm via email to Penny Morten (China Creations).

  1. Caretaker’s Report

Helen advised that there had been a few bookings for July/August predominately for parties. An indoor boot sale was held on Sunday 4th June.  Ian Pulford has been booked to fix the lights and the urinal this week.  Ongoing odour from ladies toilets in the Oasis – Helen to look into obtaining a quote to rectify this.  Village Hall is currently booked every evening with the exception of Fridays.  Georgina (yoga teacher) will be going on maternity leave shortly and would like to keep her slot for 4/5 months.  It was agreed that this would be possible and could be filled with adhoc bookings until her return.  Helen advised that she was not familiar with the Fire Alarm system should it go off.  Helen to arrange for Smith Fire Kettering to visit for training.  Helen to ask Richard Morten to look at the Bowls storage/cleaning cupboard as it is very stiff & often mistaken for being locked.

  1. Busy Bees Report

Update from Penny.  Richard Morten has agreed to paint the steps, date tbc.  Busy Bees numbers are picking up although sadly they are replacing the children who will be going to school, so still plenty of spaces available.

  1. Youth Club Report

No report.  Mike to ask Jonathan Alms who is the current Chair of the Youth Club.

  1. Over 60’s Bowls

No report.

  1. Studio 52 Dance Academy

All good – no issues.  Castle Theatre Wellingborough booked for July shows.  Numbers are steady.

  1. Other Users

No issues.

  1. Date of Next Meeting

Tuesday 4th July 2023, 6.30pm Village Hall Lounge.
