COMMITTEE MEETING

6.30pm, Tuesday 7th April 2026

Oasis Lounge, Wollaston

Present:     Cllr Mike Goldsmith (Chair), Cllr Greg Carter, Maureen Green, Mary Burbidge (Treasurer), and Suzanne Grant (Clerk).

Apologies: Fran Woods (Studio 52 Dance), Jaza Babar (Caretaker/Cleaner), Kathryn Betts and Sian Nichols (Busy Bees Chair),

  1. Welcome and Apologies

Mike welcomed everyone to the meeting.  Apologies given as above.

  1. Minutes of the Previous Meeting

The minutes of the meeting which took place on 3rd March 2026 were agreed and signed.

  1. Matters Arising

None from the previous meeting.

  1. New Community Centre and Preschool

Revised plans from the architect have been received to incorporate a door/reduced kitchen space together with a quotation for the planning costs to get us to the planning stage.  This also will include large scale graphics for the community consultation.  Next steps are to undertake the community consultation and work with the architect on the previous pre-application responses.  After this stage, the architect has confirmed that the project is too small for them to take on and therefore they will work with us to find an alternative.  Cllr Goldsmith confirmed that the proposed EV chargers for High Street (directly outside the Oasis building) have been deferred to an alternative location.

  1. Treasurer’s Report

The closing bank balance as of March 31st was £25,532.41 (see attached).  Payments in March include the annual music license, trade refuse and maintenance bills for floor repair, toilet lights and broken windows.  Octopus Energy are currently paying back the first quarter of the £200 deposit.  Tesco Mobile phone – awaiting the previous caretaker to terminate the contract and provide the PAC code.  The contract will then be put in Cllr Carter’s name potentially under a SIM only deal.

The Treasurer presented the new Terms and Conditions agreement which were unanimously agreed by the Committee.

Busy Bees have paid rent until end of March 2026.

  1. Caretaker’s Report (sent in by Jaza Babar)

Everything is going well at the moment and bookings are coming in – mainly parties and a few return customers.  It has been quiet over the Easter holidays, so not much to report.  The only pressing issue is the guttering and roof repairs for the Oasis building.  As you are aware, I have been trying to get this fixed since October 2025, but due to the original contractor pushing back and not responding, I have sourced another company, and the damage is a lot more extensive than originally thought.  Water is seeping through the walls on the inside of the Oasis after heavy rain.  The quote for this work via MM Roofing is £1,580.00 (quote circulated).  It was unanimously agreed to proceed with this quotation following Cllr Goldsmith contacting Jaza Babar with a guttering query.  Cllr Goldsmith to chase Jaz Babar on the paving slab work.

  1. Busy Bees Report

Busy Bees have requested a skip to be delivered to clear their items following closure on April 29th.  Cllr Carter to arrange a walk round with Busy Bees before this date to ensure a clean exit.

  1. Studio 52 Dance Academy

No report.

  1. Other Users/AOB

No reports.

  1. Date of Next Meeting

Tuesday May 5th, 2026, 6.30pm Village Hall Lounge.
