WOLLASTON PARISH COUNCIL

PLAYING FIELD & PARKS MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

MINUTES OF THE MEETING HELD ON

Wednesday 9th September 2026, 7.00pm

At The Village Hall, High Street, Wollaston

VOTING MEMBERS PRESENT

Atkinson, Jones, Mitchell, Perry, Savage (Chair) and Silsby.

PUBLIC PRESENT

None.

APOLOGIES

Apologies from Mr Green, Cotter, Cllr. Hodson and Mrs Suzanne Grant (Clerk)

FINANCES

Finances to end of August 2026 had been circulated and agreed. No issues.

PLAY EQUIPMENT AND ADULT GYM INSPECTION/MAINTENANCE

Mr Savage confirmed that he had inspected the play and gym equipment and would pass the inspection sheets to the Clerk on her return from holiday. He was pleased to report that all the remedial work required from the External Audit reports had now been completed by Playground Supplies and also that the Elephant rocker had been removed.

The climbing wall possible finger traps had also been remedied by Finding Fitness Ltd.

MUGA UPDATE

This continues to be well used and is a good asset to the Playing Field. Unfortunately there is still some rubbish being left and people taking cycles into the courts. The tennis net winder seems to be jammed and may need some attention if the net starts to sag.

POCKET PARK

Mr Thompson continues to work hard keeping the garden tidy and the brown bin is being emptied fortnightly.

SPORTS ASSOCIATION REPORT

The cricket season will be ending soon and all the men’s teams have done well and should remain in their respective divisions, although the first team have an outside chance of promotion. The youth and ladies teams have also had a good season and some are through to various finals.

The football season has started early and so far going well with 4 wins out of the 5 games played for the men’s team. The youth teams are well supported, with a girls team turning out this season. The Vets have only just started playing and will be hoping to emulate the last season, which proved to be a successful one.

The high electric cost in the clubhouse is still being looked into and some energy saving measures taken to try to reduce the large bills. It is hoped to obtain a grant from the ECB for some solar panels perhaps.

PURCHASES REQUIRED

None, although we have given Mr Norris the go ahead to remove an old bench and replace with another and also some fence work to make it more robust at a cost of £185-£210.

FIELD MAINTENANCE/MATTERS RELATING TO THE FIELD

The field had suffered greatly over the summer as a lot of sun and lack of rain had turned most of the grass brown, although recent wet periods had begun to green up the grass again. It was mentioned that the rabbits seemed to have thrived and had scratched out a lot of holes on the field. Mr Green was to be contacted to try and step up the efforts to hopefully bring this problem under control. However Cllr. Jones said that the moles of earlier in the year seem to have now gone.

An email had been received from Quintin Allen of NNC requesting confirmation that our names for the signing on our S106 agreement for the earthworks on the field would be valid. After much discussion it was decided that Cllr. Savage would give him a call in the morning to try and sort out any problems.

It was reported by Mr Silsby that the light at the top of the bollard was out again after only being repaired recently.
