PLAYING FIELD & PARKS MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MINUTES OF THE MEETING HELD ON Wednesday 11 October 2023, 7pm

MINUTES

The minutes of the last meeting from 13th September 2023 were agreed unanimously and signed as a correct record.

FINANCES

Finances to end of September 2023 had been circulated together with Quarterly Budget to September 30th 2023.

PLAY EQUIPMENT AND ADULT GYM INSPECTION/MAINTENANCE

Mr Savage confirmed he had inspected the equipment and handed the inspection sheets to the Clerk. Minor issues reported: Loose Basket Swing at St Mary’s – Mr Savage to tighten. Mr Savage to request Imperial Carpentry to look at Kangaroo spring and loose slats on seating. Clerk to request quote from Playground Supplies for vandalised safety flooring under Basket swing. No issues with Pyghtles Park or Playing Field. New Toddler Swings have been installed.

No issues.

SPORTS ASSOCIATION REPORT

Cricket Club had a successful 2023 season. The first team avoided relegation, the second and third team were both promoted. Successful presentation evening held last Saturday well supported and included Lifetime Membership Awards for individuals that had contributed to the Club both in Cricket and in maintaining the field.
Football – Update from Mr Cotter for Youth. Successful Girls Wildcats Training is currently being held at Wollaston Top School until Spring, Monday 6-7pm for girls in years 1 to 6. There are approximately 18 girls attending with more coaches required if the numbers are to grow. Youth Football – no issues apart from U14’s coach may leave due to health issues which could result in a loss of numbers. Youth Football have been approached by Gigaclear to receive a Community Fund (£1500) ideas for which are currently being discussed (Sponsored Foldable Dugouts, Trophies, Respect A Frames). Mrs Milroy advised Gigaclear are welcome to advertise in Wollaston Together Magazine in return. Mr Cotter requested an update on S106 Sports monies. To be updated at next meeting. Dimensions of junior football pitches have been sent to Mr Mitchell in readiness for potential new junior football pitch.

PURCHASES REQUIRED

Tree Maintenance – work being carried out on 12th October cost will be approximately £1,400.
Pocket Park – quote received for £340 for general tidy. All agreed, Clerk to arrange. Mr Savage to contact Mr B Thompson to advise as a courtesy.
Annual PF Hedge Cut – Quote received from Hayeswood for £700 plus VAT. All agreed. Clerk to arrange.

FIELD MAINTENANCE/MATTERS RELATING TO THE FIELD

Rabbit holes – no holes reported Playing Field side, potential of either couple of Owl Boxes to be installed or “catch live” traps. To be monitored by Mr Green.

Still awaiting field maintenance – Aerate, disc cut, spike and seed outstanding work from Robert Spiking. Mr Perry to chase.
It was commented that the outfield and wicket are in good condition. Weed & Seed – G Wilcox – Mr Silsby to chase. Football pitches also in good condition and the SA have been approached by NFA promoting a pitch fund. Mr Perry looking into.

Electricity prices are very high – the pump on the water irrigation system should be turned off during winter as this is constantly activating.
Plans to buy frost activate systems to prevent burst pipes. Mr Perry & Mr Silsby to provide quotes for these and the Parish Council will contribute towards the cost.

Mr Perry thanked Mr Savage on behalf of the committee for the overseeing of the bin emptying & recycling. Request from Mr Savage that the outside bins do not contain mixed recycling.

VAT ISSUE

It was confirmed that the Parish Council cannot claim back VAT on behalf of the Cricket Club. All avenues have been explored.

There being no further business the Chair thanked everyone for attending and closed the meeting at 8.10pm.
