PLAYING FIELD & PARKS MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE
MINUTES OF THE MEETING HELD ON
Wednesday 10th December 2025, 7pm
At The Village Hall, High Street, Wollaston
VOTING MEMBERS PRESENT
Atkinson, Green, Perry, Savage (Chair), Silsby and Mrs S. Grant (Clerk).
PUBLIC PRESENT
None.
APOLOGIES
Apologies received from Mr Jones, Mr Cotter, Mr Hodson and Mr Mitchell.
MINUTES
The minutes of the last meeting from 12th November 2025 were agreed unanimously and signed as a correct record.
FINANCES
Finances to end of November had been circulated – no issues, although we will be over budget once invoices are received for tree audit work and St Mary’s new play equipment.
PLAY EQUIPMENT AND ADULT GYM INSPECTION/MAINTENANCE
Mr Savage confirmed he had inspected the equipment and handed the inspection sheets to the Clerk. All urgent repairs which were booked in for November 19th – 21st for St Marys and London Road playparks as per the annual audits carried out in June and August of this year, have been delayed until w/c 15th December by the contractor. The MUGA basketball unit has blown over again in the wind, Mr Savage and Mr Perry to inspect and possibly add further sand. A sign has been placed on the gym equipment advising to contact the Clerk with any issues with the gym equipment.
MUGA UPDATE
The Floodlights have been reported as still tripping when all sections are switched on – this is after they have been inspected by an engineer and the boxes replaced and damaged cables have been repaired. Mr Savage and Mr Perry to test. Mr Savage reported there are continued issues with the MUGA gate bolts working loose due to poor design. Clerk to check with the regular tennis ladies that they are happy with moving the net to the other court in the wet weather due to the surface being very slippery. The replacement Basketball unit is now stored at the Playing Field and will be required for new parts in the spring.
POCKET PARK
Mr Thompson continues to work hard keeping the garden tidy and the brown bin is being emptied fortnightly.
SPORTS ASSOCIATION REPORT
No issues with the football with all age groups. The Cricket Club are looking to introduce a under 17’s age group and a softball ladies/girls’ team to provide more playing time for females due to the Northants rules.
Due to last year’s high electricity costs with all five wall heaters being on a timer to prevent burst pipes, the Vics and Cricket Club will be funding heat cables.
Wollaston Top School new MUGA – the car park and building have been delayed by a couple of months, and every interested partner was offered a taster session of half a pitch at a cost of £55. This cost unfortunately is too high for the adult team to use on a regular basis, but there is potential for the Wollaston Youth use to facilitate this option. Clerk to check meeting date for the Wollaston Steering group for January 2026.
S106 Business Case for the remaining S106 monies for Playing Pitches and maintenance– Clerk to update the business plan for £43,000 which includes a 2-year ground maintenance plan at £35,000 and an £8,000 Hybrid Cricket wicket (attached) and send to Quinten Allen for review and hopefully to be agreed at the 12th February Development Contribution Meeting. It is essential that the work commences in April 2026.
PURCHASES REQUIRED
Tree works from Tree Audit – £3,960.
Pyghtles new safety flooring – three quotes have been obtained and the historic Pyghtles/Neale Close S106 monies will be used for this as agreed at the November Parish Council meeting. Clerk to check the guarantee and the validity of the quotes as work will not commence until Spring 2026 due to the weather.
FIELD MAINTENANCE/MATTERS RELATING TO THE FIELD
Rabbit numbers continue to be monitored.
The rising Bollard is currently not working (will not raise) Mr Savage and Mr Perry to check.
DATE OF NEXT MEETING
