WOLLASTON PARISH COUNCIL
PLAYING FIELD & PARKS MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE
MINUTES OF THE MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY 10 MAY 2022, 7.00pm
At The Clubhouse, Playing Field, London Road, Wollaston

VOTING MEMBERS PRESENT
Messrs Perry, Mitchell, Savage (Chair) and Mrs Milroy (Vice Chair) – Miss D. Styles, Clerk.

MEMBERS/PUBLIC PRESENT
None.

APOLOGIES
Messrs Boddington, Green, Jones, Silsby and Tew.

MINUTES
The minutes of the last meeting were agreed unanimously and signed as a correct record.

FINANCES
Finances were circulated. Spends for April, Norse wheelie bin final empty £29.80, NNC new wheelie bin 3 month contract £94.25 and £500 on account at Barton Petroleum. The capital sum of £16,500 is available for the new multi play equipment at St. Mary’s play area. The capital monies for the tractor shed will have a spend of £162.87 for Mr Perry’s purchase of the solar security light which will leave £475.60 available. With the increase in the cost of fuel, the budget for the tractor diesel will not be enough.

PLAY EQUIPMENT INSPECTION
Mr Savage had carried out the inspections of the play equipment at St. Mary’s, The Pyghtles and Playing Field areas including the adult gym and passed the check sheets to the Clerk. The new play equipment is being installed at St Mary’s play area after a call to the Clerk last week that the installation company had had a cancellation and were available to begin this project. There have been some incidents at the basket swing at St. Mary’s, mainly incorrect use of the equipment. Safety sign to be placed at the equipment.

POCKET PARK
Mr Thompson has kindly been helping out at the Pocket Park strimming back the vegetation, thank you to him for this work. No issues with locking and unlocking of the gate.

SPORTS ASSOCIATION REPORT
Mr Perry reported that football had finished so the pitches had had some maintenance completed on them, soil and seeding. The goal mouths were the worst areas. Football had invested in a cleaner over the last 2 months due to the amount of dirt the footballers bring in to the clubhouse. Cricket area able to keep cleaning under control due to the dry weather but football will re-employ their cleaner in September to keep the site clean. The decorator is due in. The boiler issues are costing quite a bit £1,212 to date. Football paid to empty the septic tank at the end of April but it was full again 8 days later. After some investigation it would appear a faulty ballcock in one of the toilet cisterns was allowing water to escape into the septic tank continuously.
The cricket season has begun with lots of youths signing up so 6-9 years are on one evening and the older 9’s and 10 year olds have been moved to another night. Adults are struggling to get 3 teams but this is due to some of them at university and taking exams.

PURCHASES REQUIRED
Mr Perry purchased the solar security light but this requires a bracket and he is looking to have one machined up. Mr Perry and Mr Savage had previously discussed litter management and it was agreed to continue with the existing 660L wheelie bin and order 2 x domestic size recycling bins. These will be emptied in line with village bin emptying. Other quotes were deemed too expensive with annual charges and difficulties sorting various recycling materials. Clerk to order the recycling bins. Mr Savage now has the 3 quotes for the tree safety audit and will have a look at them and get back to Clerk. The Hawthorne trees have been ordered despite difficulties in obtaining them.

FIELD MAINTENANCE/MATTERS RELATING TO THE FIELD
Clerk will meet with Barry to discuss the ‘Bund’ to be developed along the inside of the hedge. Mr Savage will speak with Mr Boddington regarding the outdoor table tennis units. Discussions took place regarding placing the metal table near the plastic picnic bench at the play area. Full committee needed for further discussions and approval. Clerk had received an email from Sport England regarding facilities at the field. Clerk will respond regarding update to Active Places Data Platform.
As regards the Jubilee Events, the bar licence is in place, the road closure permit is in place and parking in the car park will be for permit and blue badge holders. Once traders have dropped off their equipment on the field which will be open from 8am, they can park on the verge of London Road while the road is closed.

DATE OF NEXT MEETING
Tuesday 14 June 2022, 7pm at The Clubhouse, Wollaston.

There being no further business the Chair thanked everyone for attending and closed the meeting at 8pm.
